Nicole Po

General Piano Studies  |  Advanced Classical Studies

Nicole is a classically trained pianist and cellist who has been active in the Seattle music scene since the age of seven. She began her piano studies with Victoria Bogdasheveskaya, the former principal keyboardist for Seattle Symphony Orchestra and accompanist for Rostropovich. Nicole

underwent many years of piano competitions and has earned top prizes at the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside, Washington State Music Teachers Association, Chopin Northwest Competition, and Seattle Young Artist Music Festival Competition. In college, she was awarded a scholarship from University of Washington School of Music Keyboard Program and continued her piano studies under Dr. Craig Sheppard. Though Nicole ultimately decided to pursue a career in healthcare, she continues to make music a priority in her life. She is always looking for music-making opportunities and especially enjoys playing at weddings and company parties, accompanying church worship services, and playing in chamber groups.

Nicole first began teaching the neighborhood kids in 2012, but by word of mouth and warm recommendations, she began to attract more and more students from the greater Eastside. She is dedicated to helping every student hone their technical skills and find their unique musicality. She believes that some tough love is necessary for strong technique, but adapting to each student’s personality is key to helping them find a voice in the musical world.

Outside of the studio, Nicole loves to dance (Chinese Traditional), take her golden labrador to off-leash dog parks, and try new exotic foods. Her favorite quote regarding practice is from Arthur Rubenstein, “Never practice more than three or four hours a day… you must spend therest of your time learning about life and love and art and all the other wonderful things in theworld. If a young person sits in the practice room all day, what can he possibly have to expressin his music?”
